This was a truly momentous day in my life. For years I had been wanting revenge for my primary school days and this was the day!!!! Let me explain. I am a former pupil of Orangefield P.S. Surprise surprise, the school is still there, (alas not for long), although none of my teachers were still teaching... it was a long time ago after all. Teachers telling me to be QUIET haunts me. Line up in an orderly fashion, walk don't run, rules and more rules, you get the picture!!!!! I had managed to convince Mr Long (principle) that we would respect the school and that they wouldn't know we were in the building. Within a few minutes the rule book was ripped up. To make sure we made a lasting impact I had gathered the heavy artillery, eight of us arrived at the school for battle!!!
The gym was allocated for our use, the last time I remember being in that room I was playing basketball. The musical instruments were set up and we waited for the first P7 class to arrive. It wasn't too long before they joined in the spirit of the moment and we proceeded to make as much noise as possible. Brilliant!!! It did my heart good to be creating controlled havoc in this environment. We played drums, chatted and had fun, whilst learning a little about diversity. The pattern was repeated for the other P7 classes. The pupils, teachers and Principle were really positive about the experience. I hope they got as much out of the morning as I (we) did. A great start to the New Year.
Mr Long (Principle) had the last laugh, at my expense!!! He was able to pull my file confirming that I attended the school. Unfortunately it also confirmed my D.O.B. (a well kept secret) and the fact that I had failed to attend school on quite a number of days!!! Thanks for a great morning.
